Marlin The Marlin is a large, fast and powerful fish with spectacular fighting abilities: a hooked marlin, propelled by its mighty tail will sometimes leap repeatedly or "tail walk" across the surface in strenuous efforts to free itself. Bermagui boasts three species of Marlin - blue, black and striped, although it is the striped marlin that Bermagui is most famous for.
ESPRIT Charters support the tag and release of Marlin and do our utmost to release the fish in good condition. We prefer to let the angler fight the fish with only the necessary help from the boat skipper. We don't adhere to the trend of fast reversing down on the fish . Every effort is made to remove the hook after the fish is tagged. If the fish is not in good condition, it is nursed to ensure its survival. This allows ample time for videos and still photos to be taken. Then we issue a certificate of achievement. We owe much of our technique and fine tuning to Ed Martin of California. On one occasion he tagged and released 3 marlin in the space of 4 hours, ranging from 90-130kg. He was then 72 years old fighting with stand up tackle, and only he and Lloyd were on the boat!!! All fish were released in good condition. Jo
